The BCom and BSc IT degrees will be available on all 12 CTI campuses from 2013, making this exceptional degree available throughout the major centres of South Africa.

The CTI BCom and BSc IT degrees offer a unique combination of a fully South African-accredited qualification with international recognition. An option to complete a UK-based Higher National Diploma (HND) at the end of the second year of study gives learners a head start into an exciting array of international study opportunities. CTI BCom and BSc IT degrees pave the way for graduates to explore countless opportunities for future employment, both in South Africa and internationally.

Unique Benefits

The CTI BCom and BSc IT degrees provide students with extra academic opportunities during and on completion of their degree studies. This unique offering from CTI is not available at other higher education institutions in South Africa. CTI graduates possess a distinct advantage over graduates from other institutions. This will stand them in good stead when seeking future employment or promotion.

South African accredited degrees:

The BCom degree and the BSc IT degree are accredited by the South African Council on Higher Education (CHE) and are registered by the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA) on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). Learners completing either degree will therefore have the assurance that they have earned a recognised and highly regarded degree. The collective relationship between CTI, MGI and other public higher education institutions means that CTI degrees are highly regarded by many of South Africa’s leading education institutions. This regard also enables learners to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in order to receive credits for additional under- and postgraduate qualifications at these leading institutions.

A study option that provides international qualifications and recognition:

The BCom and BSc IT degrees are aligned to a number of international qualifications and institutions. On completion of the second year of study in either of the degrees, students have the option of completing an additional project. If successful, the students will receive a BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) awarded through Edexcel (UK) and the London School of Business and Management. The HND is a British (UK) qualification and is registered on the United Kingdom National Qualifications Framework (UKNQF). Students who possess an HND can gain entry into universities in the UK (entries vary from institution to institution and change when curricula and or outcomes change). Many of these universities recognise the HND on a second-year level of specifically aligned degrees, and students will gain direct entry to third-year studies at these universities.

The advantages are endless. This “internationalisation” allows students the advantage of being able to use the degree both in South Africa and internationally, and provides the following benefits:

  • Students can now further their studies internationally at participating universities in the UK.
  • Students can explore international employment on the strength of the “internationalisation” and/or the international moderation of the degree.

In addition, the degree is quality assured (externally moderated) by Cardiff Metropolitan University in Wales, and CTI graduates will gain direct entry into an Advanced Postgraduate diploma in their field, and by meeting the entrance requirements, a Master’s in Business Administration (BCom and BSc IT graduates) or a Master’s in Computing (BSc IT graduates).
